Series – PhotoVoice Sibaté: Where Did the Squirrels and Owls Go?

paisaje Sibaté paisaje Sibaté

In March 2025, we began a PhotoVoice project in Sibaté, where disposable cameras were distributed to community members. For three months, they captured images of their surroundings and everyday life. After the film was developed, participants selected photos and wrote stories in groups about their community.

Author: Alicia Torres Niño

Landscapes of mountains and crops, reflecting life in its corners and in the distance.

It is crossed by empty pastures where crops exist or once existed, leaving a void in the vast forest that once was.

It immortalizes the landscape I cherish and recharges my spirit. I feel a mix of emotions—nostalgia, sadness, and joy—as I look at these beautiful landscapes I used to roam when I was a little girl coming from the city. Now, as time passes, this landscape has changed, reducing that green vitality of life.

Where did its squirrels and owls go?

It captures the transformation that humans and “progress” have left behind, like a scar across the vast green mountain landscape that decorates the town I love so dearly.

Sibaté.
